¶ Examples of tapestry, porcelain (n.d.)

October 2, 2014

19th cent.

Examples of tapestry, porcelain, &c. London: South Kensington Museum, n.d.

This appears to be not a book but a portfolio of prints (153 chromolithographs) assembled and bound by a collector—Morris, perhaps? The prints were produced by the South Kensington Museum and are on several varieties of paper. The label on the spine reads “South Kensington Examples”; there is no title-page.

Provenance: Morris. — Richard Bennett. — Sotheby 1898, lot 1127 (sold to Henry Wellcome for £7 5s.). — Henry Wellcome. — Brooklyn Public Library [deaccessioned]. — Roger Coy Books (sold to Doug Nelson, 2014, for $79.19). — Doug Nelson (private collection, New Jersey).

Reference: MS catalogue (2), no. 100.
