Jacobus, de Voragine. Legenda aurea sanctorum. [Augsburg: Günther Zainer, not after 1475].
Illustrated. Note by Morris tipped in on flyleaf: “The cuts in this book are done by an early artist of Zainers, and have the look of being designed by an illuminator: they look like the work in Sorgs Speculum; many of them are very pretty, and they are decidedly ornamental in character, though lacking the freedom of the artist of the Menschlichen Lebens. The type though we have called it semi Gothic might rather be looked on as a slight alteration towards Gothic of his first Roman type.”
