¶ Steele — Mediaeval lore (1893)

March 31, 2014

Steele, Robert. Mediaeval lore: an epitome of the science, geography, animal and plant folk-lore and myth of the middle age: being classified gleanings from the encyclopedia of Bartholomew Anglicus. London: Elliot Stock, 1893.

With a preface by Morris. The provenance below is conjectural, based on a claim in the Wellcome online catalogue that this is Morris’s copy; but it should be pointed out that there is no mark of Morris’s ownership in the Wellcome copy, and there is no evidence that Henry Wellcome bought any other books at the 1898 sale through Tregaskis.

Provenance: Morris. — Richard Bennett. — Sotheby 1898, lot 1018 (sold to Tregaskis for £1 3s.). — Henry Wellcome. — Wellcome Library (History of Medicine BN /BAR).

Digital version: Internet Archive (Morris copy). — Wellcome Library (Morris copy).
